Laws on Western Hognose Snakes in CO

(bleep)33 Jun 14, 2016 05:19 PM

Hello,

So I have done extensive research on the laws in place here in Colorado on owning and breeding Western Hognose snakes. I'm hearing a bunch of mix stories and I'm sure I'll hear some mixed ones on here too. I've even spoken with a Parks and Recreational License Officer about it and she didn't even seem to think the law made sense. So your allowed to take up to four wild Hognose's out of the wild but you are not allowed to exceed six specimens at a time. But according to the law these are only applied to Wild and normal hognoses not MORPHS. I then spoke with a reptile store who sold me my Albino, and the owner of the store says the law has a lot of gaps in it because it is written by people who don't know or understand snakes. So my question is are there any breeders here in Colorado and is it true that MORPHS are legal to breed and sell here in the state of CO?

I called the Colorado Department of Environmental Protection when I had a gentleman interested in babies from me (in CT) and they told me that I COULD NOT ship to Colorado. Some crap about wanting to protect the native population from captive diseases.
