Rosys boa sex

snakeboy40 Jul 08, 2016 06:02 PM

I am curious about the sexy of my rosy boa. It is believed to be a female and spurs are not present. I have tried to breed "her" for two years now and nothing has happened. Only a couple of times I have seen the male on top of her. My question is if thatf they were both males would they try to breed?

When did you try to breed them? How long did you leave them together? Are they related?

Is the male a definite male? Usually, female rosies that are mature will be a bit (sometimes quite a bit) larger than males of the same type. Not always but usually. May depend on locality for that.

Timing is important. I have always housed them together during Spring for best results. After the male breeds the female, he will often coil up on the cool side of the cage the next morning. That is when I know they have bred. Otherwise I would not always know - they are not always quick to breed when first introduced.

Also, for success, the female needs lots of food prior to breeding. Once gravid, she needs a nice toasty 88-90 deg F belly heat source constantly available.
