Year of the freak?!

newworldmorphs Sep 12, 2016 12:08 AM

2013 I produced this little weirdo from pairing a Frank Martin produced Orangasm Line Jungle TH Moonglow girl to a Dave Savickey Motley TH Moonglow. Every litter that Ive had with this girl ( 3 so far, all with different sires ) have thrown at least one weird looking boa similar to this. The biggest trait passed to all of these offspring have been white patches that grow and intensify over time. This guy has been the most intense since birth and has started getting orange and pink spots and patches with every shed over the years. Recently, I was messaged by a guy I sold a boa from this same girl ( different sire) that produced a crazy looking Leopard/Motley weird looking thing ( I've attached that as well tho it is his boa). Seems like we may have to explore whats going on a little further since its now looking like the offspring of this girl have a potential to throw freak boas as well. To mention as well, the guys boa from me didn't have any of the weird stuff going on with her coloring at all and still doesn't. Anyway... feel free to comment and throw out opinions. Thanks

I definitely think there is something going on here Jamess, this boa I produced may be the result of what "freak" occurrence is going on. I love my "frankenboa" and can't wait to show people and get others opinions. I plan to repeat the breeding. Do you have any breeding plans that may result in more specimens showing this phenomena soon? Im sure others as well as myself would love to see what could come!

Kurt,
Good to see you on this forum! As for these boas, I totally agree that it's an exciting phenomena that's produced some really unique animals- and with the fact that it's been shown to pass to more generations is even more exciting! As for pairings to examine this further, I have three-four offspring from the same mother as your girl ready to go this season. With that being said, there are 2.2 of them and within the females, neither show anything "crazy" to them ( then again, neither did your girl when I sold her to you in 2011 ) , but with the males, one is a ghost motley jungle 66ph albino that looks "normal" while the other is the crazy one in my original post. I had planned on pairing him to a different female but after hearing from you with your "Frankenboa" and subsequent conversations about what could be going on, Ive been wondering if he needs to go back to his mother for one litter only and see what comes of it. I'm honestly still torn between mom ( "normal" looking morph ) paired to a "normal" looking morph VS paired to a "freak" boa... as to which would give more true results. My thought is while it makes sense to use the freak male to hopefully boost the chances of more freak boas, does that give support to the theory as much as if I used the "normal" looking one? Neither of these males have been proven yet either so theres that component to it as well. I do not know what contribution their genes have since I haven't bred them to an unrelated female. Also, they have actually came from different fathers in different litters ( same mom though). So.... lots of things to consider. Im open to any opinions.
