Infertile kingsnake eggs?

lbyrne May 26, 2017 10:25 AM

I would appreciate any insight on this: My speckled kingsnake laid 4 eggs 2 days ago (much to my surprise)and I have not bred her. I've owned her for about 7 years now and this is the first time I've observed eggs. Given that she was probably too young to be bred when I got her originally from a local pet shop who claimed she was captive-bred, there is no possible way that these eggs could be viable, right? I feel like this is an obvious "no", but I don't want to toss them if there is any chance that they could hatch...

Thanks.

Hold an egg up to a strong light, if you see blood vessels, then there is a live embryo. If the egg is yellow and has no blood vessels, then it is not fertile. Check before you toss.

Also, you might want to hold on to them for a week or so. Some eggs don't show blood vessels immediately after they are laid. After a few days you may start to see the blood vessels start to form. If in doubt incubate them anyway. What do you have to lose?
