Stuck eye caps?

DragonGirl1217 Jul 05, 2017 11:06 AM

Hi,so about a month ago I got a Desert king snake and this week was her first shed since I've gotten her. When I got her, she had solid black eyes and I thought maybe she was just about to go in shed, because most king snakes have silvery eyes. Well, she just finished her shed and still has almost completely black eyes. When I look close, I can see the pupil and iris, but I'm worried that she maybe had stuck eye caps on both of her eyes. She's my first snake, and nobody I know has a snake, so I'm worried and not sure what to do. If it is an eye cap, I don't know how to take it off without hurting her. I'm going to try to figure out how to post a picture since I'm new on this forum, but all help is appreciated. Thanks for the help

Try an empty, clean Cool-whip container or similar (ideally food-grade container but even a Sterilite shoe-box container is ok) and fill loosely with damp sphagnum moss. The snake will hide in it if kept about 80 deg, and the eye caps should come off after a few days usually. Kings like moist hide spots. You can use the lid too, just utility knife a good size hole.

How'd this get resolved? I don't have a snake yet but I want to be prepared...

Thanks!
