Just curious..what happened to this site

I was in the hobby for over 20 years and loved it. I went from 15 snakes to 4 to nothing. Mostly because of my work load and I felt that I was not giving my snakes the attention they deserved. I mean they were still getting taken care of. So I got out of the hobby 2 years ago. Now I have decided that I just wanna get back in and get 1 snake ( we all know how that goes). But my question is what happened? I would be on these forums all the time and there was so much activity. And now I see very little. I know I am part to blame. But has snake keeping lost its interest? I miss the days of Rainer, Frank, etc. Is there another place people chat? I used to belong to another site, but cannot remember its name.

I've begun to wonder this myself. I'm not sure if there is another site people are using nowadays, but I've always loved king snake.com...

This site is overloaded with info, sales, forums, etc. This site has everything we need! I can't imagine another site even comparing. All I can think of, is with the accessibility of social media these days I'm sure this site could take a backseat. I'm a part of several reptile groups on Facebook and they all seem much more active than this website.

Wish there were more activity here!

Hope that helped.

First thing that happened was there were two groups of guys here constantly fighting and guys from one group started getting banned. I heard the mods favored one group over the other. Then around that time, Facebook invented FB group pages, so people started some snake groups and the rest is history. Now nearly all the snake forums I was on before, are now dead. Everyone is at facebook and I'm not exaggerating. Those that are all weird about social media and wont join FB, are really missing out on a lot. I run the Cal king page on facebook and we have just as much activity with only Cal kings than this forum ever did with all kingsnakes represented here.

I am very much like you in that I went from a dozen or so to 4-5 to 2 to none. Not due to interest lacking, but had to happen. I still have my trusty box turtle though, so that is something.

I miss this site's antics of the past, too. FR was right - you have to test out what works and what doesn't, and you have to do this with your own animals to really learn.

I will need to check out Ross's site. I thought FB was nothing but people smiling arm and arm in pics where they present their lives as only about vacations and brotherly love. FB is not where I would expect to research.. snakes or anything else for that matter. But if Ross says there is info, I need to check it out.

Yeah, go to my website called Southern California Kingsnakes and at the top you'll find a link to my facebook and a link to the Cal king group on FB. That is absolutely where everything is right now.

I had the same question as the OP... I contacted a few breeders, as I am interested in Floridana. There are several very informative FB pages dealing only with Floridana and their morphs, with lots of well known breeders hanging out, answering questions, and posting great photos. Hopefully KS realizes their past errors, and can in some way reinvent themselves. If not, FB is the place to go...
