Vanishing pattern question

bslugger551 Aug 01, 2018 10:47 AM

I bred a hypo vanishing pattern ruby eyed male to a ghost female. The babies hatched out all hypo. How does the vanishing pattern gene work? Will i get more vanishing patterns right away or will the babies be het for vanishing pattern? Also, does the vanishing pattern get more extreme over time?

VP is recessive so all your hypo babies are carrying (heterozygous) but not displaying the gene. Females bred back to your original male or to clutch mates will (odds vary, but the genetics to produce homozygous will be present) produce visual vp's. Beautiful animals by the way and well done. Chad

Sorry, to answer your second question.VP animals in my experience become more extreme as they age, with pattern gradually falling away. Across generations breeders have achieved more extreme vp's through selective breeding/pairing of animals expressing the least amount of starting pattern or most lost of pattern during growth. Chad
