well you all do seem like a fun group of people, accepting new posters and all, lol..im Sarah, im a student in FL and my pets are 2 hedgehogs, 1 green iguana (rescued) 2 ferrets (adopted/rescued) 6 painted turtles (1 rescued) 5 goldfish (2 rescued/'adopted')a paradise fish and ive had other pets, too (frogs, hermit crabs, salamanders, newts, other fish, etc)

If its anything to contribute to the forum, I got my first pets when I was 8 (discounting the hamsters my family had when I was too little to remember) they were 5 hatchling painted turtles found (now I know why WC isnt ideal, but I was 8 years old)

I got to watch and learn as my dad fed them, bought them filters and a large tank, cleaned filters/tank, set up lights, and so on. from the 6 turtles led on to more aquariums and cages (and a freeroaming iguana who my parents are both fond of)

BTW, I am almost 15, and my younger siblings have been raised around reptiles and other animals most of their lives.

Sarah

Hey!
Nice looking iggy you've got there Your goldfish were rescued? I didn't know people would rescue feeder fish Just kidding, I'm sure your goldfish are very loving pets.. Welcome to this forum, although it's pretty slow most of them time. Hedgehogs are pretty cool, I almost snagged one with a set-up for only $100. Happy herping.

hey =P fair enough though. they were given to us in bad shape. the only feeder fish here are minnnows and guppies, I like my goldies more then some of my other pets (g) curly and moe are comets 13" long, (2 of my original) and I wouldnt exactly call them "loving.."

$100 isnt too bad for a cage and hedgie, why didnt ya get it? lol. My first hedgie was $90 (plus $100 cage, $45 wheel..) my 2nd hedgie was $75 (plus $30 in gas driving 2 hours to and from) and my third hedgie was $160. I plan to breed hedgehogs in a few years

I know they're illegal, but I was still gonna get one. I think Arnie is planning to legalize ferrets.. dunno bout hedgehogs. The main reason I didn't get it was that my mom decided I couldn't have another pet. Bwahahaha but I showed her.. the next week, I brought home 3 leopard geckos and a B&W tegu.

Now I want a hedgie AND a sugar glider. The illegal part is just a minor inconvenience(sp?). I can always go to Vegas to get one..

You know, I'm only a couple of hours from Reno. I know people go there for ferrets all the time. I don't know why I didn't think of it. Do they sell them in petshops in NV or do you have to go to a breeder?

So Arnie's thinking about changing the stupid ferret law? That's good because now all those ferret owners can come out of the closet now. If you take a banned animal to the vet can they treat it without your permit?

Fortunately, I am out of my mom's house and I now I am the mom so I decide the pets. My kids are so spoiled growing up with so many animals and they don't really appreciate it. Who plays with the snakes & lizards?...that's right, me.

I think you can get them from both pet shops and breeders. I know a couple local vets that treat ferrets.. I mean, they can't turn down a sick animal, right?

missing out. Hedgehogs are great little guys. We had one for a fair amount of time (it was already old when we got it). They are awesome little guys to watch. They will roam around just scoping out the area, and they look just like little cockroaches when they run. Ours finally had heart trouble and passed away. Sad, but we might get another someday. Andy
