which is best for a kids first snake? A Corn or a King

rayquaza Jan 22, 2004 10:28 AM

I know a corn is always suggested but I really like the looks of the grey banded Kingsnake. Are they as good as a corn? Can they become good holdable pets? As this is going to be my snake but also my very young sons I want something I can appreciate and he can hold and give a name to and help feed.Thanx

Just kidding. Go with the gray-band if you can find one that is feeding well. If they eat well when they're young, they will continue to do so. Don't buy one that isn't feeding, though.

Well, I have eight snakes right now (including 2 corns and a gray-banded king) and the gray-banded is actually the best out of them all for handling. He's always calm, when you hold him he moves enough to keep a younger persons interest, but not fast enough to make handling a hassle. As long it's feeding and healthy I think it would make a great choice. Good luck.
