Looking for metabolic information on extotherms

AbsoluteRae Feb 18, 2004 12:18 AM

I've decided to do my research project for one of my pre-nursing bio classes on the metabolic differences between endotherms and extotherms. While there is pletiful information on mammals, I'm not sure where to find accurate info on herps. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help!

A good start would be with Schmidt-Nielson, K. 1990. Animal physiology: adaptation and environment. Cambridge University Press, New York. I don't know any scientific journal references by hart but you can try finding article by Huey and Pianka...

Good luck

The basic metabolic calculations for reptiles can be found in Mader's Reptile Medicine as well as the various references for amphibians look in Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry
