HELP! I need to convince my parents to let me get either a chameleon or a crested geko!

TwiztidChameleon Feb 22, 2004 07:45 PM

Please help me. List things that would make them let me have one! Thanks!

Of course, being responsible enough to own such animals should be enough to convince them, unless they are herp nazis, but I still would not recommend any of the old-world true chameleons for you if you are a beginner. You may be dissapointed, as they require more work than most pet store variety lizards, and even when cared for properly have very short lifespans. If you do get one, be sure and read a lot about them first.
Now, on to my second point:
I and two other "non-kids" on this forum used to be like yourself, wanting to keep these herps as pets for quite some time thinking it was beneficial for our educations. While it IS beneficial to get some experience handling and caring for herps, we all learn very quickly that it will not compare to examining one in the wild and letting it go. Any field guide you buy will be more valuable than a care booklet or Reptiles magazine subscription. Get yourself a pet lizard if you feel you are responsible enough to care for it, but try and find some in your area as well. Visit the field notes forum if you have questions about when and where to herp in your area.

How many times do I have to tell you? I am still a kid! So don't go elevating my status...I am still legal on this forum for now, at least for another month. :-D

I thought you had finally crossed over. Sorry. Anyway, convince the rents that you aren't one and we can put some freaky stuff on your lifelist this summer. P.S. If you know you are going to A&M, I have already spoken with people and they said if you go to the IHS it will be fine. If it is beneficial to your major (i.e. vets will probably give herpmed talks) then they pardon you for conferences. I think they are supposed to let us skip class to go to the ETHS conference in sept as well. Give me a call. 281 370 4792.

That actually sounds like a plan. I turn 18 a month from yesterday, so it won't be too long now.

You guys have fun up there. I'm gonna stay here another year and really work on getting my gpa up like i have been this semester. But since you guys will be gone i'm gonna be looking for some new herping buddies. I am thinking about that one chick in the ETHS, Brandon I believe you know who i am referring too*Wink Wnik*. Anyway long story short, is a phrase that is complicated in rambling.

Bring it home and tell them you can't return it. Then get ready to be grounded, beaten, or yelled at. They'll forget about it soon. Works for me, and I'm asian which means my parents are mad crazy and hate all things un-furry.

Or you can tell them that you'll get good grades, take out the trash, wash the dishes, etc.

I prefer the former.

HEHEEHHEHE...hey seriously it works....thats what i did too..and im asian too...they did forget about...and now my mom actually thinks my leopards and my hognose as "cute"...as for cresteds...they are a bit harder to keep...and i personall think theyre uglier...but thats just my opinion...chameleons are also harder to keep...i suggest u to start with leos...my friend breeds chameleons and tokays...and he said that chameleons are a quite easily stressed and can go on hunger strikes....if u ever get a chameleon...read up and get the most easily housed easily kept chameleon..better to have a healthy animal and get yelled at and then beat...than to have a unhealthy uneating animal that u can't care for...and get beat and yelled at...and once more because your reptile dies...well...good luck on your parents...but i personallyfound that if ur parents are hardcore anti-reptile...don't try to...u may find your chameleon in the trashcan...or if ur like us...u mite find your chameleon in ur soup....okay...why am i promoting horrible stereotypes of asians...haha..well laters...
