Abandoned Female Leo found at PetSmart. !!!!!!!!!! HELP WITH QUESTIONS. !!!!!!!!!!!

scott_and_cat Mar 05, 2004 04:42 PM

A local pet store employee found an adandoned female Leopard gecko amoung their merchandise: seems healthy, no sign of obvious illness or malnutrition, bright eyes, fat tail, alert, just a little cold & seemingly annoyed at her situation...my husband, who's there right now buying crickets, was pretty much tackled by the sales manager, He says when he picked her up she "gurgled" (??), but otherwise seemed rather happy to have a warm hand to curl up in.

1.Any quick care/set-up tips?
2.We know they are similar to African Fat-Tails, but need less humidity. Crickets/Mealies.
3.Will a 10 gallon starter tank, with repti-carpet, water dish & hiding hole do for a few days?
4.Local Reptile Vet being called.
5. Keeping her in a different location in the house, away from our established family/resuced reptiles.

Am I missing anything?

Depending on her health and after we watch her for a month or so, we may be adopting her out a LOCAL Akron/Canton, Ohio area person. We will keep updates & pictures.

Feel free to e-mail me @ sanderson22@neo.rr.com or cat@ndiu.com

What a weird day.

I so need sleep.

Oh, and I am a "grandma"...my long-tail IS gravid. Yay!

LOL, join the weird club. Reminds me of when I acquired a house gecko and a bearded dragon free-roaming from a Petco - three years apart. Now, when 911 calls YOU, then you'll know you've arrived.

They are similar to fattail but they need humidity just like the fattails. All of mine have a "humid hide" its not the prettiest thing, but it gets the job done to help them shed. I use a square tupawear one of those new throw away glad ones works i put holes in the side and put bed a beast dirt in it with water. With of course an openning so the gecko and get in and out of. Another way you can do it is if you have a log hide. Soak it in water great humidity during shed. I house mine in rubbermaids with an undertank heating pad, but 10 gal is great too. Mine love to eat superworms. Babys will usually eat millworms but since yours in an adult go for the superworms and also superworms shells arent as hard as millworms which helps digustion! Dont you "love" petstores!! =)
