Help! sores on florida softshell

tahdpohl Apr 26, 2004 10:31 PM

This is my first time on a forum like this, but I need some help. I have a young Florida softshell turtle (~1yr old)that has 2 open sores on her back. I figure her environment needs to be kept clean until they heal, but I'm not sure what else to do for her. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

I asked my vet what to do about the sores on my softshell's shell and he told me:
The water needs to be clean all of the time, softies are very delicate and need pristine water conditions. So you are gonna need to perform many water changes a week.
As for the sores, take the turtle out of the water, dry him off, get some Betadyne and swab it onto/into the sores and then let it dry before you put him back into the water. He also told me to use Polysporin(not neosporin) as well. So what I did was apply betadyne one day, and the next day I applied Polysporin, and so on.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try. How long did it take before the sores were completely healed?

It only took mine a couple of weeks. But their sores weren't too bad.
