First softshell

herpheart13 Jul 21, 2004 06:58 PM

Ok, I'm thinking about getting a softshell turtle for the first time. I've kept other kinds of turtles. Which kind of softshell would you recommend for a beginner? I want the least aggressive and the smallest kind availible. What would that be? I'd probably get a male. And what other kind of turtle could I keep with it? Thanks!!!

A suggestion, don't get a florida softshell unless you are up to the challenge. They are beautiful and cute, but they can be a challenge. Female florida's can get to 24" long when mature, so unless you got LOADS of space, I'd suggest a male.

OK, I don't want anything big or hard to take care of or aggressive. What about smooths and spinys??
