florida softshell help needed

tahdpohl Jul 21, 2004 08:09 PM

Basically, I want to know if there is a good book someone can recommend for telling me how to care for my florida softshell. I have a female, and have had her for a year and she is not eating or at least I can't tell that she had been eating. I'm thinking that maybe I ought to try live food or maybe adjust her aquarium temp. I've tried to look for a book, but haven't found anything and the books that have mentioned florida softshells basically tell you not to get one... which of course doesn't help those who have one already. Thanks in advance for any info you have.

Hi,
what are your water temps? I keep mine at around 79-80F. Yeah, alot of people are against FL. softys because of their eventual size, but I just love them! (Of course I have a large pond in the works for mine when they get older). Best of luck with your turtle! Christy

I had her temps in the upper 70's, but she wasn't eating. I have her temps in the lower 80's now- thinking that she needed to have more warmth in order to eat- but it hasn't helped either.
