help here...genetics question

DeanAlessandrini Sep 09, 2004 03:56 PM

I have an okettee group that is STUNNING and I just aquired a corn in trade that's mother was a candy cane and father was a snow.

Looking at breeding it to an okette to see what I get.
All the babies from that mating would, I assume, look like normal corns but would have multiple het traits, right?

Providing there are no other hidden genes.......

Candycane is just an amel bred for that color (red and white)

Snow is a corn snake that is displaying two recessive genes at the same time (amel & anery)

If you breed your Candycane(amel) to your Snow(amel/anery) you will get normal looking corns and amels(may not look like a Candycane BTW because the amel gene used to make the snow may not have been a Candycane). You will not get any anerys or snows (providing that your candycane is amel ONLY LOL). Expect amels, normals, and normals that are het for amel and het for anery.

IF your candycane is het for anery, you should get some snows, anerys, amels, and normals)

Kerby,
Candy cane X snow would produce all amels and no normals. If any snows were produced then the candy cane was het anery. Anerys and normals shouldn't be possible from this pairing.

I misread the post, thought he was asking what snow X candy cane would produce. Doh!

Sorry about that.

You have the Okeetees, and a albino that may be het for something else(??).Bred to the Okeetee you should have all "normal" looking het for albino(candy) that may or may not look like any Okeetee...as this is not a gene.Jeff
