NA Wood keeps flipping over

Dewback Sep 11, 2004 10:32 AM

I have a hatchling North American Wood turtle that gets so excited all the time that he is constantly flipping himself over in his tank. The water is shallow probably about 1/2" at the the deepest point, but I still worry about him. His carapace is so broad compared to my other turtles that he has a hard time flipping himself back over. Today I found him asleep on his back. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

I've read that the water should be at least as deep as the turtle is wide. Otherwise they can have trouble fliping back over, and can actually drown when stuck on their back in shallow water, because they get to tired to hold their head out of the water
