I purchased a baby softshell today and i'm wondering how many pellets of the turtle food you are supposed to feed it. Another thing i am wondering is if a basking spot is needed or if it is just optional. Will the turtle die without a basking place?

Softshells aren't exactly the basking type like painted turtles are. Make sure it has full spectrum lighting over it's tank. It doesn't need a basking spot, because one will rarely bask. Give it as many pellets it can eat, I can't really say how many to give it, because I do not know how big your turtle is, and how big the pellets are.

Whoa Whoa hold up... Softshells DO need a basking spot and bask very often i keep 2 softhells and also catch about 50 or so every summer and the ones I keep bask about as often as my red eared sliders and I often find them basking on logs and rocks along the creeks and lakes. I figured i'd better clear that up.
Peace easy all. Coop
