Species availability inquery...

SRX Oct 19, 2004 09:52 AM

Hello,
I was wondering what are the current species of Softshells available? Which species/locality is the smallest as adults? Is there a certain locale that would be recommended over the others? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time,
Scott

The most commonly found in the trade today, both from breeders and pet stores, are the array of Spiny Softshells (Apalone spiniferus). Second would most likely be the Florida Softshell (Apalone ferox) and third would be the Smooth Softshell (Apalone muticus).

Thank you for your help! That's what I was trying to find. Of the 3 species of Softshell listed, do you know which male reaches a smaller adult size?
Thanks again,
Scott
