New baby softshell....

vinny79 Nov 19, 2004 04:16 PM

Just got my first soft shell, I am pretty sure it is an easter spiny. I have a painted, and 2 red ears. The soft shell is a baby only about 2" long, and am wondering about a diet for the little guy or girl. Right now I have it in a tupperware container until it gets a little bigger. What is the best thing to feed a baby softshell, I threw 5 tiny guppies about 1/4" long a couple days ago and he hasn't eaten any yet. Anything else that I should try to feed it? Thanks.

Your baby is yoo young to catch live fish.
Fresh or frozen blood worms, (frozen) beef heart is a favorite.
My baby has grown 1 inch since I bought him 1 month ago.

Also, he must 1-2 inches of have soft sand to bury himself in at the bottom of his container... ideally, he can bury his body & keep his head above water.

It has caught one, but the others it can't. I got some worms for it and it likes those. Thanks.
