my new rescued Iguana

vikki Dec 07, 2004 04:46 AM

hi
i havn't posted for a long time but could do with some advise.
I have now a beautiful green iguana now called Izzy she had not very good human contact for over a year and apparently Izzy's tail was bitten off by their dog, i think she is female but to early to tell yet but she is svl 6.5" full length 14".
my question is: she is very whippy and biting she will calm down after i have held her for a while but she is still so terified, will she get used to me, will she calm down, i know they do, but what if she had been badly abused is there hope?

It's all a matter of trust.

I rescued Rex six weeks ago; he (could be she) came to me with a nasty cut on his tail and underfed. He's eating like a horse now, and his tail is healing nicely. He no longer tries to bite, and his tail stops whipping a few minutes after I start holding him. But he's always ready to bolt, and his claws are quite sharp.

We've put Rex in an open cage in the middle of my home office, so he has lots of activity going on. I talk to him all day when I'm alone, and that seems to help. The key is going slow, I think -- making sure the iguana knows you're not going to eat him or her.

I suggest patience.

hi guys
Well Izzy has now been at home with me for 2 or so weeks and she is showing a slight difference she will sit on my hand after a bit of persuasion and she ate some colliflour leaf from my fingers, and still had them intact wahhoo!! , she is still so nervious,

the only thing she seems to let me do to her as in petting wise is rub the bottom of her crest,

What do your iggys enjoy??

Merry Christmas
