Lost my Baby Cali King. Trying everything. Need more help!

ScooterT Dec 14, 2004 02:07 AM

Well. He escaped from his temp. cage witch is just and old 8 gal. octagon fish tank while I cleaned his 10 gal enclosure. he was in there awhile while i cleaned my red devil's(big mean fish)55 gal. aqarium. didnt think "spike" could get out, still dont know how he did, but he's gone and I'm torn. he's only 13 or 14" long. I Searched high, low, inside, behind, and underneath everything. His little tank was in the kitchen on the counter, i figured he ended up under the fridge but our fridge in ancient and i cant get it apart to really see all the places he could be in there. He's been gone 4ish days now, i search everyday and night, and thing is its a small apartment. I've tried bags along the walls and listened, nothin. A pinky in a jar with the hole, nothin. Tonight im leavin a heat pad and his hide-rock in the floor and hope he likes it better than any other heat source. Im wiggin out ya'll. Any more andvice? O by the way I have an adult cat too, she's terrified of the snake though, you think she may be the reason he's not goin anywhere? I take any advice I can get, I loved that snake.

Ive lost more than a few snakes in my lifetime, including baby cal kings. I've bred them for years and one or two have escaped from their boxes. Ive never found them again. all you can do is keep looking in warm dark places, and look and re-look, because they move around. once when I was 5 or 6, my rosy boa got out, and THANK GOD my mother found it cruising across the kitchen floor towards the fridge two weeks later. that is the one and only time ive retrieved a lost snake. I hate to tell you that the outlook isnt good, but that is the reality of losing a snake.he might turn up all by himself soon, or years later, depending on if is able to stay warm and find food. all I can tell you is keep looking, and maybe pick out a new snake. if you really feel bad, try maybe leaving an (escape proof) dish of live crawlers out, and if some are missing in the morning, you know you had a visitor and that he is eating. you might even be able to catch him if he stays in the area, looking for free crawlers.

Thanks for the reply ill try the crawlers thing, I've almost given up though, im afraid he's frozen to death. Theres been absolutely no signs of him, I dont think he's even come to any water sources, and nights have been getting way to cold here. I'm still hopin. A new snake maybe after christmas. And then he'll have a buddy if I ever find him!

I wouldn't give up. Two of our cornsnakes have been missing for about a month and we walked in last night to see the smaller of the two, Shadow, in the middle of our front hallway mad as can be. We just caught him at the right time. Our other one is around here somewhere and we'll find him as soon as we don't have room I figure (we just took down Shadow's cage the other night). It's cold here as well (western PA) and they stayed in the house. They're smart enough to try to stay warm. Good luck!
