Goldfish living with ADFs?

Wolfrog Jan 23, 2005 01:19 AM

Hello!
Can anyone tell me if a feeder goldfish will injure my ADFs? The fish is maybe a little over 1" long, and the ADFs are also about 1" (not counting the back legs.)
I had given some fish to my African Clawed Frog as a treat but this one has been in the tank for almost a week now and is still uneaten... It's so spunky I'd feel bad about letting it get eaten now!

So I was thinking maybe I could house it with my two dwarf frogs provided it would not try to eat them.

Its ok as long as its not agressive.

Well how do I know if it's agressive? Right now it's just trying to avoid getting eaten by my Clawed frog!

I have kind of the same situation. My pet store ran out of feeder guppies so I tried some White Clouds. I think I bought 7 just to test. 4 got ate and the other 3 have now become part of the tank. They have been in there for about 3 months now. One of the white clouds does have a chunk of his tail fin missing, but other than that, they all live together and tolerate each other. I was told that the White Clouds are a little quicker than than the Guppies and that may be why they have survived.

I was surprised any fish made it, as the last time I gave him fish they were all gone quickly, but this one fish seems very fast. It's also kind of pretty, being golden and white instead of just plain golden like the other fish (which the clawed frog ate!)

The thing is I want to put the goldfish in with my *Dwarf* frogs, right now he's with my Clawed frog and sooner or later I'm betting he will get eaten, but I don't want to move him to my Dwarf frog tank unless I know he won't hurt them!

Well if its with an African clawed frog, the fish will be eaten, try it out with the dwarf frog its the only way you'll know.

the goldfish will finish all the food before the ADF gets some, and then the ADF will starve.

btw, goldfish as feeders are a bad idea. they contain an enzyme that blocks the absorbtion of Vit. B, this can cause stunted growth, rickets and premature death in the long run. stick to minnows or guppies only.

check out my site below for information on Dwarf Frogs, even sutible tank mates.

I know, I don't normally give goldfish but the stores in my area never have feeder guppies, so this one time I gave her a few goldfish as a treat.

You should try night crawlers from a petstore. Also try the floating reptile sticks.Crickets are also a nice treat.
As far as the goldfish being with the dwarfs goes;yes it will pig out on the food that was intended for the frogs. Also goldfish produce a significant amount of ammonia compared to tropical fish. The frogs may hide more often as well.Even if the goldfish is not aggresive just because he is bigger than them.
