Where the heck do you buy these guys?

Rhacophile Feb 07, 2005 07:02 PM

Where the heck do you buy these guys? The larger ones with the blue stripes and black background. Or the aquatic one I saw on this forum. And about how much do they run, and can they be shipped? I'm sorry I'm ignorant about these guys so enlighten me and try not to mind my spelling.

The terrestrial species are infrequently offered by Glades Herp (catalog at gherp.com - reliable people I've dealt with for years) The aquatics are banned from U.S. importation because they are collected in Columbia (with the tropical fish) but amphibians are arbitrarily banned from export (totally irrational, but we have to live with it). Once in a great while they get past the inspectors, but not predictably. There is a guy in Canada who will bring them into the U.S. and trans-ship from there. He is OK and I have gotten some from him. This is Typhlonectes natans. More info, if you are interested, post your e-mail address for details. People tend to favor the aquatics because they are more visible than the terrestrials, which burrow, and are easier to find.

Are all amphibians from Columbia illegal? I know of many species that are frequently offered that originated from columbia and the sellers dont seem worried at all? is it just that no one really puts anytime into stopping it?
