Slider Turtle eggs laid in pond

lindamarie Feb 12, 2005 07:18 PM

My neighbor's pond is frequented by large turtles, two days ago we witnessed a slider (large) laying eggs in the pond (because of the hurricanes the "turtle ramp" has recently collapsed, so the turtle probably couldn't get out to lay the eggs). Knowing they would not survive in the water, my husband and I rescued them from the pond fish and put them in sand in a homemade incubator. We doubt any will survive... but does anyone have any tips to save these 21 little turtles? Thanks

If you got them out fast enough they may be alright. Just wait it out. Don't get rid of the eggs until they get rancid. I had a painted turtle lay eggs in water and I pulled them out and all three of them were fertile and survived.
