ok,
first should i even get a venomoid? i've kept snakes throughout my life and love them and want to get an awesome snake without killing myself.
second, should i not get a venomoid bucause a lot of people are REALLY against it and i can see EXACTLY why. i dont want to go and get a venomoid when there are people who put a lot of time in convincing other people to not get them and by getting one i'd be destroying thier work(in a scense)
third, if i do get one, with constant handling, will it ever get tame?
and fourth, what is a good venomoid to start out with if i do get one? personally i LOVE cobras!!!!!!
thank you for your time

Dont support the practice.
No they never get "tame" in the sense of the word, though they might tolerate handling eventually. BUT why would you want to handle a venomous snake? Even a venomoid can inflict damage.
Leave them as they were built, treat them with the RESPECT THEY DESERVE, and get some experience with hots. THEN, get a small crote or copperhead, our native species are packed with neat behaviors!
Best of luck

A couple of things regarding your post.

One, there are plenty of "awesome snakes" that are completely harmless and non-venomous. Consider one of those.

Secondly, the reason we don't want you to get a venomoid has nothing to do with "destroying our work" or anything like that. It has to do with the ethics surrounding the selfish mutilation of animals for purely human gain. We're not against venomoids for our egos.

And as lateralis stated before, venomoids can still give a very nasty bite, and should be treated the same as venomous. Further more, many venomoids are produced by amateurs (non-veternarians), and may not be done properly, leaving the snake still capable of a venomous bite. You are essentially trusting your life in the hands of an amateur you don't know, and who is primarily interested in your money. Would you trust an amateur (non-licensed) pilot to fly you across the country? Or an amateur doctor to perform surgery on you? Probably not.

If you are seriously interested in getting a venomous snake, take some time to learn the skills and techniques neccesary to safely keep them. It will be much more rewarding that way, I promise.

because a snake is "AWeSOME" is 100 percent the WRONG reason to get a hot..and dont assume that a venomoid is not venomous..if the surgen missed even a small peice of a gland or duck it has been known to grow back.. please dont dive into the hobby head first cause ull break ur neck.. and if u are serious get experience and even then u cant start with a cobra..trust me i am just as facinated by cobras as u or anyone is but we gotta know our limits..in due time

Above, all the people make good sense. Just think of it this way.....reptiles in general don't become "tame" like one thinks a dog to be(even questionable). They are still wild.....they dont need you...they can survive on their own (in proper habitat of course)! So they will always have the potental to act wild.

I consider myself a pretty experienced herper (both in the field and class room) but the only "HOTS" that I own are Gila's, which are relitively safe (as far as hots go). They are not a pet to be handling and showing friends!

If you do make the jump into hots please be smart!!! We dont need more front page news!! Make sure your local hospital has antivenom!!! And start out with mildly venomous please!!!! Sorry if I come off harsh....just tired of reading articles about venoms pet bites.

Thanks,
Chris
