RE:Redfoot hatched!

manbart Mar 11, 2005 07:05 AM

Hi,

I have 9 redfoot eggs. One came out of his egg this morning. Most of his egg sack still appears to be attached. I removed the hatchling to a 5g acquarium with moistened paper towel as substrate. Should I leave the egg sack attached or try to remove it. It seems like it would be hard to remove. Most of it seems to still be there?

Thanks,

Tilford Bartman

Redfoots always hatch with a large yolk sac. NEVER, under any circumstances try to remove it or mess with it.
Place it in a small bowl with a layer of damp paper towels to cushion the yolk sac and then return the hatchling to the incubator for a few days. The yolk sac will shrink up as the yolk is absorbed by the hatchling.
