(Walmart) Xenopus In Little Cups ??!!

xenopuszooltd Mar 18, 2005 09:32 AM

It was brought to my attention yesterday that Walmart is selling Xenopus and Hymenochirus in little cups usually with a plant (similar concept to Aquababies but smaller) in their pet department. These cups are pretty small from what I've been told

I went to walmart last night, but did'nt find them there, but will continue my search. I was told they were seen at 2 or 3 Walmarts in Michigan..

If anyone comes across them, please let us know here at this forum. You can also email me personally.. I will be starting a page specifically dedicated to this outrage..

I don't know the exact measurements. I can tell you that they are around the same size or are the same size as the cups that many stores sell Betta fish in.

I haven't seen them personally, but my mom, who works at Wal-Mart, said that we have them too. (FL) Poor froggies... I hate it even when I see the bettas in there.

Your mom has seen that at the walmart in Florida?

To my knowledge unless the law has changed, xenopus are restricted in Florida. I am double checking with the fish and wildlife service in Florida.

Go to the link for restrictions on xenopus and silurana. these include frogs from GAF.

Hmm... Guess it wasn't Xenopus then. Anyways, she said they sell some kind of clawed frogs.

I was in Wisconsin recently and they were also selling these cups-o-frogs. they only had the albino's.

Hello. I happened across this forum while looking for updated care info for my two new little froggies. I bought my frogs from Walmart in St. Charles, MO., (a skip away from St. Louis). These are #'s 2 & 3 frog family members (frog # 1 was also from Walmart). These guys are labeled as "Albino Clawed Frogs". They are tiny, albino and clawed. Our first frog would fit comfortably on a nickel, full grown (in a normal sitting position, with frog being 'skinny' vs. fat/bloated looking). Walmart carries these guys all the time. If you are still looking for info about these frogs I will help where I can. If you have any info which would be helpful in their care, please let me know. As you most likely know, finding care info for these exact frogs is near impossible. Thx!! Kelly
