Hatching cherryhead

mayday Mar 29, 2005 06:16 PM

This series of photos were taken from Monday morning until Tuesday evening. It had first pipped on Sunday.
The hatchling first sticks out it's nose and breathes directly for about a day and a half.
Then it turns in the egg. Eventually the egg is opened all the way around.
They usually sleep for a while before wandering out of the egg.
It doesn't always happen in that way but usually it does.

I'm hoping this year.

It is nice when they follow the rules.

Yep, it is a privilege to work with these animals. And you never get tired of seeing an egg with a little head sticking out of it.

Looks VERY nice Carl. Good job...

#27 Elongata hatched here yesterday... things are getting BUSY with all of them! I need to get some pics of the 2005 babies.

Best of luck with all your eggs this season.

Matt
p.s. - I still have a few more 'good' looking Elongata eggs to go! Crazy...
