Adding a New AFT to an established colony

Snakemother Mar 30, 2005 07:57 PM

I have 3 female geckos living quite nicely together in a 20 long. I've just gotten a male of about the same size as my girls. I'm wondering if there are any special concerns regarding adding him to their colony?

I'm planning to move them up to a 40 gallon in the next couple months - should I just wait till then so they're all in new territory? Or is it better to keep the male separate except for breeding purposes?
Thanks!

Only real problem I see is the females haven't got alot of room to run from this guy if he decides it's breeding season. I don't have any experience in this area yet, but have read that they can be persistant to the point of stressing the females. Maybe wait till they are in the bigger tank. If he proves to be a pest keep them seperate till you want to breed them. If not house them together. Good luck.

You might want to think about quaranteen for that couple months and then watch the behavior of the male with the females. Alot of times the males are real aggressive all the time.
