a question about emerald swift babies- color and age

dazedstella Apr 04, 2005 12:03 AM

I work in a pet store and recently brought home two baby emerald swifts which had been born at the store. They both are a dark brown color, and very tiny, i'd say a week old and about 1.5 inches, but i was wondering about what age they begin to show their adult colors? or if they are brown now do i definately have females?

They will show colors about 3-4 months old, sometimes you can see the color on the males underside start bluish under his chin and on sides before that age.

I have 5 kids right now that are almost 6 months and the green on the males is coming in nicely.

Males also have a pair of large scales just under the vent area, the slit.

This is what the underside of young male will look like, at a few months old
