new to this forum and need help asap please

my mom came yesterday with a lizard the box said rainbow lizard and it looks real similar to some of the lizard posted here and i need to know the best typeof set up tank size everything at the moment he is in a 15 gallon that i was setting up for a american toad there is about 3in of soil a water dish and a cave of bark i was thinking of getting a 40 gallon long because he runreally fast and keeps crashing into the glass can someone please help me

Generally "rainbow lizards" are racerunners, lizards of the genus cnemidophorus. There are a bunch of different species, so id'ing it might be hard. Also, they are usually imported loaded with parasites and not eating. Your best bet for info is to do a web search on the genus, or ask in the general lizard forum.
