Snakes and Cats Question - Semi Long Post

bps516 Apr 29, 2005 06:56 PM

This might have been said before but I am new here. I have a rescued bp (about 4 feet) and two cats (a little over a year old each. The snake is in a cage in my bedroom and the door is most always shut. The only time the cats are in the room is when me and my wife are in there too... but we know how mistakes happen... I have been very concerned of the snake attacking the cats and had never thought about the cats knocking the cage over. My question- Has anyone had their snake kill or hurt the cat once they are out? I can imagine the cat killing the snake and I saw during feeding last night how freaking quick the snake can strike... What did I get myself into here?

nothing to worry about.....it's a ball python. Post this question when you own a burmese and we will talk.

If you owned pet rats, it would be a different story. We had pet rats in a cage, and a ball python that got out. He struck at the rats nose through the bars and coiled against the side of the cage. It was really freaky. I don't remember how we got him off, but if he hadn't let go, he probably could have suffocated her, even without being wrapped around her. And he was only a yearling-ish.

Maybe try a glass tank with a sliding lid and a pin-lock for the snake. And get a third eye to watch the cats

Okay, so lets not worry about the cats and start worrying about the snake. I PROMISE, if your snake and one fo your cats get in a fight, the claws will most certainly win. I've put hundreds of dollars into vet bills to save one of my ball python from a cat attack, and my cat is only about 4 pounds! Make sure the lid is secure from them!
