Baby Food Freshness?

DavidY May 29, 2005 11:18 PM

The labels on the jars of baby food say to use within 3 days after opening them. I assume this is for the safety of the baby who doesn't have a strong immune system yet. What about for our Day Gecko's? There's no way my gecko will eat that much baby food in 3 days, and I hate the idea of wasting it. How long do most people here keep a jar of baby food and has anyone noticed any adverse affects from doing so?

Thanks!

I usually keep mine for about five days in the refrigerator. Gerber makes the smaller 2.5 oz jars of the tender harvest organic fruit. I usually smell it on the fifth day to make sure it doesn't smell bad. They usually eat it and there haven't been any problems. I think if it's gone bad, they will know and wont eat it.

Thanks for the reply. How often do you feed the baby food to your geckos? I read that it should be offered once a week with the crickets being the main food source. Maybe I should get a few more gecko's to make better use of the baby food!

Once a week is the norm. Some people also only give them crickets once a week but usually about 5-10 crickets per gecko. I feed mine 1-2 crickets per day and then give them baby food on the weekends. I don't give them crickets when I give them baby food of course.

Okay, that's what I thought. Thanks for the reply!
