Where to buy Painted turtles online?

turtlemh Jun 01, 2005 02:45 PM

Hi well I am looking for painted turtles online since I can not find them around the Buffalo area. Every pet store only caries RES or says they will get them in but never do. I look is ponds, all I see are common snappers. Any good websites that you guys know where to get them? Thanks

Try the Turtle Rescue of Long Island http://www.turtlerescues.com/

or Turtle Homes www.turtlehomes.org

to see about adopting one.

Hi -- Yes please go to our site and put in application and picture of your setup. We do get painteds in frequently enough enough and have them up for adoption. We just placed a young one this week.

I think I would rather buy then adopt cause I want 3 painteds. So Any place that sells them. I am also looking for 4" or smaller kinda. I have a turtle pond outside and a box pond for them in the winter in my basement but now I need turtles.

I'm not following your logic here. Yes, it might take longer to adopt than to buy, but why not put in an application and see what comes available? Rescues get in all kinds, all sizes, but not necessarily at the size one wants when one wants it. Rescues do get in sick turtles, but they also get in perfectly healthy ones.

Why don't you think they'd let you adopt three at once, if they had three, and you have a large enough pond?

I guess I want a young turtle because I want one that I know where it came from. I don't really want a turtle I know it sounds bad but has been abused and will leave me with heart break if it doesn't make it. I also want to know how old it is if possible such as u can usualy tell from hatchlings.

Wow -- you really have a misconception about rescues and what we do. We get animals in in all sorts of conditions but NEVER adopt out anything that is not in the best possible shape it can be in. Special needs animals are NOT adopted to anyone making a "general" request for that particular specie. They go to homes geared toward their needs. As far as the buying from a petshop -- What makes you think that you will have a better history on the animal. Do you realize how many turtles being sold in petshops are dumped there by people who no longer want them?

If you have an appropriate set up and put in application requesting painted turtles that are young along with a picture of your setup we can certainly approve you for more than one animal.

Or else buy them if that is what you feel more comfortable doing. I just wanted to let you know that we are a very responsible organization that love and care for unwanted animals and are very careful about where and when a turtle leaves us.
