These aren't snakes or lizards... They can screw all year long not not produce a single egg.

My female redfoot layed about 5-8 weeks after a successful mating. Good luck Trey.

thanks you for your response. that is what i was looking for-not some sarcastic remarks from a breeder who apparently has all the knowledge on chelonians but shares it with none. thanks again

But it was intended to be realistic not idealistic.

What EJ wrote may or may not be sacastic but one things for sure, it's realistic. I worked with my herd of adult redfoots for seven years before I got my first futile egg. Copulation is no assurance that you'll get eggs. As for the time before laying after copulation, if the female desides conditions are not right for laying she may not lay for months or maybe not at all. If conditions are right according to her she may lay in a few weeks. As EJ said it's not like breeding snakes or lizards. I don't see any way someone could give you even an approximate time that would be true in all situations. There are a lot of variables in tortoise breeding. The most important thing to know about tortoises are the signs that they are about to start laying, because if you don't catch them in the act of laying you wont ever find the eggs.IMO

Nobody cares how much you know,
Until they know how much you care.
As everywhere.. there is "ego/idealistic" sarcasm.. Trey.. the main reason I post less often anymore.
My Redfoots breed/mate all the time.. 2.5 group.. so it is hard for 'me' to know any "sequence" .. other than time frame between clutches. If Mayday says it..... that's it.
Let's see what they do with my 'post'.
Terry
I think 6 to 8 weeks is about what I always have. But, be sure you had a 'successful' mating. They can fool you because they court and mount often---a real mating doesn't always occur. Usually it doesn't.
