Question about the possible care of a Cobra who has been fixed

adamenteus Jul 13, 2003 04:54 PM

I was in Oregon last week when I noticed that a pet store was selling cobras. I asked the man about them and he told me that all of his snakes have been fixed and are no longer venomous. I then proceeded to ask him how they are fed. He said simply that he feeds them thawed out mice with a tweezer device and shakes them to get the snakes attention at which point he promptly devours them. Is there anyone out there who has experience with snakes like this and what are your thoughts on the subject.

It's a venomoid. If your planning on getting a venomoid, Id maybe get a corn snake instead.

The whole venomoid debate is an interesting one. However, you probably won't find much sympathy on this forum as far as venomoids go. There is a great article that objectively discusses the venomoid issue on venomousreptiles.org. It's a really good article. Go over there and check it out if you would like an objective discourse on keeping venomoids.

I was simply trying to find out how people feel about the whole subject. I would much rather see a specimen still intact but I was simply saying that I seen them in the pet store.

Most folks on this forum are not in favor of venomoid snakes.
