Breeding Question

Frogger1985 Jun 19, 2005 10:53 PM

I have 5 ACFs, 2 male 3female. I would like to try and breed a pair in the far future. Could anyone that has experienced the breeding and raising tadpoles give me advice on how to go about doing so? My females are 4 yrs old, is that a good age to breed?

Any help is appreciated
THanks

there are many things that u need to consider before even taking on such a responsibility. first off you will be raising anywhere from 50-200 tadpoles over the course of 8 weeks upto or possibly over 1 year. ( i have raised thousands of xenopus tads myself over the course of 7 years)

you must do partial water changes on a daily basis and feed them twice a day every single day.. this is very time consuming and any neglect will result in the dealth of innocent baby frogs that you decided to bring into this world.

The other thing to consider is what you are going to do with 50-200 froglets..feeding them is quite expensive and these animals are already extremely over bred and over expolited in the pet trade.. chances are that your frogs are related which will result in more genetic defects.

Sure this is a novel idea but the novelty will soon wear off after the course of a few weeks and your time will be consumed with caring for tadpoles and froglets.. froglets need to be separated from tadpoles, u will need food for both which will become quite expensive..

I hope that you consider ALL aspects to raising baby frogs.. Its not something u can take lightly and do at your own leisure.. it is like having a 50-200 human babies in your care at once..
