No. The Clawed frog will eat anything it thinks can fit in its mouth. It'd eat the Beta for lunch. But Clawed frogs do like company, so if your tank is 20ga or so, you can put two ACFs(of similar sizes) together.
Oh ok. I read somewhere that they do well in a community tank.
A friend of mines daughter had them in school and at the end of the year they sent them home with the students. Right now he is still a tadpole and living in a 2.5 gallon tank. How big do they get?
Thanks!
Females can get roughly 5 inches long. Males tend to stay around 3 inches max. I have had mine for years and the male is laof the size of just one of my two females.
Yes, they will eat any fish that they can fit into their mouths.

Exactly. Females can get 6" long or so (think 4" snout to vent) on the big side. Males are usually about half that size. They love company, but if they think it will fit in their mouth, they will eat it. Someone I know on another forum had her ACF choke to death on a goldfish which was much too large, but it tried to eat it anyway.
please see my website for complete care for the African Clawed Frog (Xenopus laevis). i have bred these frogs many times
and given the proper care they will grow large and prosper.
are you sure the teacher doesnt have African Dwarf Frogs? these are commonly kept in community tanks, but most often will die of starvation and stress.
my largest female is 4 inches SVL and close to the same in width too! she is about 7 inches long, a HUGE one! she is also a stunning reticulated albino.
please see my website for more information, which includes adoption as well. i have 3 ACF in my foster tank now that are in need of a home, plus ACF in new york that are looking for ahome.

Thanks for the link, I will send it along to my friend. Very informative. Actually, my friend first reffered to it as an African Water Frog, which after some searching found it is another name for the African Clawed Frog. Correct me if I am wrong. He/she is still a tadpole so I guess we won't know for sure until it's older. Thanks for all the info!
