OK, another breeding question

ginebig Jul 02, 2005 08:17 AM

I know they have to be cooled down, but how much of a drop in tewmp do I need. I just got a couple striped females and would like to get the ball rollin'. Yeah, I know they're normals, butcha gotta start somewhere LOL.

What is this 'just normals' stuff? I know amels seem to be all the rage, but I tell ya for my money I think the normals are far cuter. Give me a nice looking normal anyday.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I like em just fine. I've got a thing for white in reptiles though Albinos and Leusistics some day, some day.

Ah fair enough. To each his own I suppose.

If you are referring to cooling down for hybernation
(brumation), I have had very good luck with reducing the temperature to 60F to 65F for two full months in January and February. Stop feeding about two weeks before cooling down to clear out their digestive system and no food at all for the duration of two months. At that temperature (60F to 65F) they will hardly loose anty weight surprisingly. After two full months slowly start increasing the temp and start feeding again a few days later. Some one else may do it different but this has worked very well for me.
Hope this helps,

Rob Reiding.

Rob, thanks much. Got off me butt and did a search. It'll be some time yet before the girls are ready. The biggest one is only about 39 grams now. Thanks again.

You're welcome. I have a proven 100% het female in case you're looking for one. Her 2005 babies are both amelanistic and striped but so far mostly peach colored.
