Floating African Dwarf Frog

tink Jul 07, 2005 01:04 AM

My daughter talked me into this little frog last night at the pet store. Tonight he is floating around the top of the tank and can't seem to stay at the bottom. He is in a community 15gal tank with a couple neons and guppies.
He got stuck to the filter earlier and thinking he had died I went to get him out and he darted off the the bottom for a couple minutes and floated back up.
I really don't know what to do.

If he does die she will for sure want another. Can anyone tell me how to tell a healthy ADF from a unhealthy one?

I'M NOT SURE IF YOU EVEN NEED A REPLY ANYMORE, BUT I'LL GIVE YOU AN OPINION ANYWAY. WHEN I FIRST GOT MY FISH TANK I ALSO HAD A FROG IN WITH THE FISH. MY FROG USUALLY HUNG OUT AT THE TOP, I ASSUMED TO STAY AWAY FROM THE FISH. UNFORTUNATLY, MY FISH ENDED UP ATTACKING THE FROG AND ATE ONE OF HIS LIMBS. HE THEN STAYED AT THE TOP SO THAT HE WOULDN'T DROWN. MY FROG ENDED UP DIEING BECAUSE OF HIS INJURIES. I HAVE TWO FROGS NOW IN ONE TANK AND THEY HARDLY EVER STAY AT THE TOP, ONLY TO EAT OR GET A QUICK BREATH. THEY USUALLLY HANG OUT AT THE BOTTOM HIDING UNDER A ROCK. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THAT IN YOUR TANK, THEY LOVE TO "HIDE OUT". I HOPE THIS HELPS A LITTLE.

an unhealthy ADF will generally appear pale, and listless. I see a lot of these frogs with bloat, and are too boyant to stay at the bottom. its odd that the frog is staying at the top as these frogs are bottom feeders. perhaps your frog is ill?
