keeping spotteds with other turtles?

wayne13114 Jul 15, 2005 08:08 PM

I just built a new outdoor enclosure for my 4 spotteds it's about 5 foot by 5 foot and I was wondering if there was any other type of small turtle I could possibly house in there with them thanks

Well I am assuming the enclosure you made has a shallow pond and a large land area. If this is right, I think both 3-Striped and Mississippi Muds will do well in that setup. Just be sure not to overcrowd the enclosure. How many gallons is the pond?

I'm not really sure how many gallons it is, It's about 6 inches deep and 4 foot long by a foot wide, the spotteds spend most of the time on the land also they have several hide spots on land and in the water, I was thinking of getting a pair of box turtles of some sort, just waiting to see if it's ok thanks again for your help

Yeah that is a pretty small water area, only about 50 gallons. I think your right, boxies would do better in your setup. Only thing is, you may want to just stick to spotteds. I am assuming you are breeding them, and you dont want any added stress by different species of turtles being introduced. But if you must, a pair of Eastern Box turtles would work, depending on where you live.
