We were away for 2 days this week, when we returned our small ACF looked like he had broken his front arm. He was still swimming around and eating. It's now been 2 days and the arm looks like it's disintegrating and is ready to fall off. Is it supposed to do this so he can regenterate the limb or is this a bacteria infection or something worse? He has 2 tank mates and I don't want the others to get sick if this is more than just a broken arm.
Thanks! Chris

hard to tell without a picture. can you take one? ACF have very thin, flexible front limbs to begin with. sometimes people mistake them for being broken when they see them bent back against the glass. but if your frog's limb is disintengrating then that sounds like something happened, like a break.

i would quarentine him to a seperate tank, treat him daily with stress coat, aquarium salt, and water changes. this should keep his water clean to prevent infection from attacking his potentially weakened ammune system. if he does lose the limb, he may slowly regenerate it. but frogs can live fine with missing arms, i've got a one armed frog, but she morphed out that way.

good luck with your frog. if you have any other questions feel free to join my group as well. its all about ACF as well, with plenty of good, active members. www.groups.yahoo.com/groups/froggyfriends

Thanks for your response. He did actually loose the arm last night. I've moved him into a smaller tank by himself and I think I'll keep him here for a few days just to watch him. The spot (where his arm was attached) was very red last night but today it's much better. And he's now swimming around and eating normally - he actually seems to be much happier here than in the other tank so that is leading me to believe one of his tankmates may be the guilty party...
Thanks again and I'll definitely check out your group. We've had our frogs just 4 months now, but they are so great and I've really gotten much more attached to them than I thought I would.
