Boy did I get a surprise thismorning

jasonw Aug 08, 2005 01:40 AM

I went outside this morning to water my outdoor fence lizard enclosure and was shocked to find 3 eggs strewn about. 2 of them were dry and dead but I put them in the incubator anyway. I now have 6 eggs in there as she has been laying them all day. To my surprise I just got back from work to find the 2 dried up eggs have popped back out and look as healthy as the other 4 however I don’t give those 2 much hope. I am very excited and cant wait for them to hatch.

As I said this is a first for me so I am not to sure what to expect but I have done a lot of reading on this the past few years so I am fairly confident all will be well. I took note that the eggs are changing is size just as they are suppose to so I would imagine they are still good. I am still wandering how long the incubation should take, I have a camera set up to take a picture every 30 seconds so I can photograph the hatching in great detail, The only problem is I don’t want to turn the camera on and have it snap shots for the next month or 2 so I need to figure out about when they will hatch so I can set the camera up a week prior to that.

Hey Jay,

Been awhile dude. Congrats on the eggs. without being a breeder of Sceloporus, I just wanted to add that it would seem about right for it to take a month to 6 weeks. I know thats how long HL eggs incubate for....On to the road of discovery! Let us know as time passes. =) and once again, our forum had died......

Yes out forum has seen its hard times but it will bounce back as it always dose. I do have a problem with my eggs however. 5 of them look great. They have increased in size as my readings have stated however one eggs witch looked very back at the beginning has shriveled and begun to mold. Should I discard this egg immediately as to keep the mold from the other eggs? Common since would say yes but I figured I would ask first.
