Z.Q. tail tales

l_l3lackwolf_l Aug 09, 2005 08:28 AM

Do plated lizard (specifically Z. Quadrilineatus) have their lost tail regrown? Im asking this because the one i found in my garden has lost his tail before i came up with him and so wondering is he gonna be miserable about it his whole life or what?
Cheers,
Sheri

Your lizard will be fine. Eventually it should grow back somewhat, but it will never be as long as the original and it will not look the same. Typically the scales are smaller and they don't grow back the lost vertebrae, instead they're replaced by a cartilaginous rod.

Yes, but for Zonosaurus, regrown tails can look about as perfect as the original one and it may be hard to see a difference.

Ingo,

I have noticed with some G. nigrolineatus that I have that they all appear to have lost some portion of the tips of their tails [all wild-caught], and although it's noticeable, it's not nearly as obvious as in some lizards like iguanas or many of the gecko species.
