Feeding Baby Day Geckos

seaneboyee Aug 15, 2005 02:30 PM

Will baby day geckos readily take a mixture of baby food or will they just accept pinhead crickets?

It depends on the species. My experience with P. standingi is that the babies will eat 1/4" size crickets within the first 5 days or so. I offer fruit baby food to them every day as well, but they only seem to eat it when I put it on my finger and they lick it off. Unless they are eating it and I can't tell b/c their tongues are so little.

Don't know if this will help or not.

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for the feedback regarding your experiences. I currently have gold dust day geckos (Phelsuma laticauda laticauda). The two other female adult WC took the baby food mixture after a few days of being in captivity. It's one of those things where it's there and they were curious, started to lick at it and have been loving it every since! I guess it's one of those things where it's good to establish a routine.
