Red Foot Tortoise vs. Cherry-Head Red Foot Tortoise

Tortuga Aug 25, 2005 08:18 PM

Those of you who have had or do have both species I was wondering if some of you could draw a contrast between the two to help me decide which species to buy. I have had redfoots in the past as well as many other species, but I really want to specialize in one of these two and I can't decide. In your descriptions please include breeding difficulties, habitat management, feeding differences, and temperment and feel free to comment on any other areas as well. From my experience I know the Redfoots are personable. Thanks to all who contribute.

I have kept and bred both types for years and have found them to be about the same in most respects. The adult male cherryheads are the most personable though. My males will 'run' out to see me whenever I am doing anything in the yard. I sometimes think it's an aggressive response.
I did an article on the cherryheads for a German turtle magazine last year I could send you the text if you e-mail me.
