Tadpole by mistake

elmothefrog Sep 08, 2005 03:43 PM

I ended up with a tadpole a few days ago because it was accidentally shipped with some feeder fish. it looks like a leopard frog, but im not entirely sure. if this is the case, how shall i care for it? tell me everything i need to know. I have it in a seperate tank from my fish, i've been feeding it everyday, there is a bubbler and everthing, so i'm okay as long as its aquatic, but i'm pretty sure that the frog portion of this animal is non aquatic, so basically i want to know how to care for a non aquatic frog. thanks

If it is a leopard frog tadpole that you got by mistake, then it won't be hard to care for. Check to see if it has any legs growing yet. If not then it can stay in an aquarium full of water. If it has legs and they are of good size then give the frog a split tank. You can make it like a beach for it. It needs the room for swimming and the ability to get out of the water becasue at this time it will also be developing lungs and need a place to sit and breath. A leopard frog as an adult will need dirt or other substrate to burrow in, foliage to hide under, and a bowl of water. You could probably even keep it in a split tank. They need to have a light just like other frogs as well. The substrate will probably need to be moist as well. Please make sure it is a leopard frog if you are going to give it to anyone. I just bought an adult female african clawed frog froma pet store that sold her to me as a leopard frog. They had no idea that she was an acf. They had her in a cage for a leopard frog.

good luck with the tadpole and your sick adf
