Year of the Russians

DaviDC. Sep 24, 2005 09:00 AM

It looks to me like a corner has been turned in the world of captive bred tortoises. This is the 1st time CB Russians have been so readily available & the price is now lower than most CB Hermanns, Greeks, & Leopards. Maybe this will put a big dent in the wild caught Russian market.

If Martha Stewart kept tortoises, she would say it's a good thing.

i completely agree. this has been a fantastic year. it has eased the massive demand i've been experiencing (wink) and now i can sell my 16 babies at a less frenetic pace.

seriously, it looks as if many people have figured out how to get their russian tortoises to breed. it would be nice if we could collectively stop the importation and massive slaughter. too many crowded and ill-fed RTs in 10 gallon tanks at petco for my taste.

(i'm going to catch hell for that)
