I have a ball python and a Hog Island boa on the way. I was thinking of also a rosy. I know all the things that have been said about individual temperatment, but opinions pleas on how docile the rosy is. Thanks, David.

However, they are usually very good feeders, and some get pretty strong feeding responses... You can't find a better snake as far as I am concerned.

Why do my rosy boas bite the daylights out of me any chance they get?
Try washing the rat smell off of your hands. It may help.

Then why did it bite my lip when I tried to kiss it? I didn't kiss or eat rat.
"I didn't kiss or eat rat."
LOL, Are you sure? Anyway, maybe they just do not like you, or maybe they like you (too much). It is hard to say. Also, calling me Dr. James is not appropriate as I am not a Doctor. There is no need for the sarcasm. Just remember what stories you tell and to who you tell them...

Gee this is a fun forum. Im new on this forum and the warm reception is overwhelming. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, well maby a cold pinky feeling.
I think you will find things to be friendlier if you stick with the truth. Do that, and we will all get along just fine. Comprende??
By the way Rick, that pink Cottonwood is really cool. Please post more pics....

The truth is that my rosy boas bite me all the time and my hands are sterile.
We both know that is not what I am talking about. Do I need to explain?

Alright I will quit kissing my snakes.
Actually there is no way to sterilize your hands.
I could cut them off heat them to 600F so in theory you are wrong.
Actually at this temperature they would desintigrate and there would be nothing left to bite, so I guess I'm not wrong after all.
David posted a question here, and I responded with a short, but well thought out answer. I did not say that they are docile all tame, and if you actually read the original posters question he said he was well aware of what has been said in the past in regard to individual temperment. My response was as accurate as you can get. In general rosy boas are indeed quite docile. And yes, they generally are very good feeders that can often develope a very strong feeding response. So to answer your comment, when proper precautions are not taken this can led to their keepers getting bit. Now, you responding to my response to David and sarcasticly addressing me as Dr James and contradicting my response out of spite, does not seem like a very good way to make friends here. I realize you may have been irritated that you were caught in a lie in the previous thread, but that was your fault not mine. In addition, high jacking Rick's thread was not very nice either. He was correct in that it was a Pastel amel. While it looks snowish, it is not a snow unless you can prove it out. The eyes are unaffected by the Whitewater amel gene, and the amel gene, and the amel gene that you work with is the Whitewater amel gene. If you want to call it a cotton candy, that's fine, but it does not change anything.
Anyway, from previous conversations, you seem like a very nice guy, but telling me that snake died last year and then telling me that it you have it and you can send me pics of the head is very odd. One of those stories is not true, and I am still trying to figure out what is. Keep in mind that at this point I do not expect that I will ever know for sure what the actual truth is in regard to this snake. It is quite unfortunate, but I will just have to live with that now won't I.

Im awake now but you will have to jump to the other thread unfortunatly I have a buisy scedual and may not be able to play. By the way I like the snake you posted, looks nice.
One of the nicest types of rosies are Mexican rosies. They have always been super docile for me and others I know who keep them. I think they are a nice rosy to start with.
Coastal rosy boas are nice too generally speaking. They get alot bigger than Mexican rosies.
For me, the ones that can't seem to differentiate my hand from food have always been CA desert rosies, including the Whitewater strains and similar types. And not all of them, but enough of them.
The mid-Baja types are really aggressive feeders and seem to thrive no matter what you do wrong or right.
